RAM Tutorial


Description

In this section you will learn the basics about using Bently RAM Structural Systems. You will learn how to set up a model in RAM, how to create steel beams, and steel columns.

Step-by-Step Instructions


RAM Modeler


1. Click the Model icon in the upper right hand side of the screen.
2. Choose a level to work with by clicking the drop down arrow of the white selection box located to the right of the drop down box that says “Steel.”
3. Once the desired level is selected, click “Material” and ensure that steel is selected.
4. Click “PropTable” in the menu bar, then select “Decking.”
5. Select the deck of your choice, then click “Add,” and “OK.”
6. Click “PropTable” again, then “Loads,” then “Surface.”
7. Enter a name and values for the load type.
8. Click “Add” and “OK.”
9. Click “Layout,” then select “Slab,” then “Slab Edge,” and click “Whole Perimeter” to assign the slab edge.
10. Click “Layout,” and then select “Slab,” then “Deck Assign.” Select the correct deck, and then click “Whole Floor” to add the deck to the perimeter.
11. Click Layout again, then select Loads, and Surface Loads.
12. Select the load and click “Whole Floor” to assign the load.
13. Repeat steps 2 through 12 for each level of the structure.
14. Ram Modeler is complete.

Ram Steel Beam


1. Click the beam icon under the “Model” icon in the upper right hand corner of the screen.
2. Click “Criteria” from the menu bar, then “Steel Design Codes.”
3. Select the desired design code and click “OK.”
4. Click “Type” from the menu bar and select the desired level.
5. Click “Process” from the menu bar and select “Design All.”
6. Click “View” from the menu bar and select “Show Designs” to view the designed beams.
7. Ram Steal Beam is complete.

Ram Steel Column


1. Click the column icon under the “Model” icon in the upper right hand corner of the screen.
2. Click “Criteria” from the menu bar, then “Steel Design Codes.”
3. Select the desired design code and click “OK.”
4. Click “Assign” from the menu bar and then “Splicing.” Select “Spliced” and “Global” to manually assign splices.
5. Select “Process” from the menu bar, then “Design All.”
6. Click “View” from the menu bar, then “Show Members.” Click the “Gravity Column” tab and select “Labels” then click “OK” to view the designed columns.
7. Ram Steel Column is complete.
